Striking a very naturalistic pose after two days filming with a father-son team of German wildlife filmmakers, for a parakeet documentary to be aired on ARTE later this year. The Parakeeting of London, my shortest and in many ways oddest book – researched and written in collaboration with Tim Mitchell (on location, but not requested to lean against a tree) – continues to produce reliably strange adventures like this. I’m happy to say they got footage of a parakeet painfully biting my thumb, which hurt but in no way dents my admiration for these birds.
